The No 4 bench plane is designed for shaping along the grain of doors, shelves, skirting boards and a host of traditional joinery tasks.
With its durable grey cast-iron body, precision ground base and sides, you’re guaranteed that flatness and squareness that make all the difference to a perfect finish. Machined seating eliminates blade movement and judder, so you feel smooth and consistent strokes rather than a tool that fights you.
A lever cap with a brass locking screw keeps the blade assembly secure, yet easy to release for sharpening. The hardwood handle and knob are shaped for user comfort so you stay in control even during extended planing sessions.
Complementing the No 4 is the 60½ block plane which excels at end-grain work, trimming laminate flush to worktops and boards, and finer detail tasks.
It shares the same quality of construction - accurately machined grey iron casting, a 35 mm (1-3/8″) wide iron set at a low angle of 13½°, fully adjustable depth of cut and an adjustable mouth - open wider for rapid removal of material, close it down for shaving fine surfaces.
The low-angle cutter and adjustability mean you’re no longer compromised when switching between heavy bulk removal and delicate finishing tasks.
These two fine tools are supplied with individual zip-up canvas bags, giving you protection during storage or transport and helping your kit stay organised and clean.
